Government Bonds

Irish Government bonds are issued by the National Treasury Management Agency (NTMA), the government agency responsible for all borrowing by the government and for the management of Ireland's National Debt.

Bond Issuance is in designated fixed rate benchmark bonds in key maturities, which are close to 2,3,4,5,7,9,10,11 and 15 years in maturity. Amounts in issue in benchmark bonds exceed 5 billion euro each.

The clearing and settlement system of Irish Government bonds is carried out by Euroclear. Irish Government Bonds are listed and traded on the Irish Stock Exchange.

The benchmark Bonds are also traded on the electronic trading platforms, EuroMTS (including MTS Ireland), Brokertec and BGC Partners. The details of all euro denominated Irish Government bonds are to be found in the list of Outstanding Bonds.

Ireland distributes its bonds through a Primary Dealer Network. The issuance procedures and arangements are set out in this document issued in February 2010 which supersedes and updates an earlier Statement of October 2002.
