Social Insurance Fund
All social insurance contributions are paid into the Social Insurance Fund,
while payments in respect of items such as unemployment and disability benefits,
retirement pensions and contributory old age pensions, are made from it.
The NTMA commenced management of the accumulated surplus
in the Fund in July 2001, with the performance being measured against a
benchmark agreed with the Minister for Finance. At end 2007 the Fund's surplus
under management was 3.2 billion euro, including net 400 million euro transferred
to it by the Department of Social and Family Affairs over the course of
the year.
The investment return achieved by the NTMA in 2007 was
3.8 per cent.
Education Finance Board Fund
Management of the assets of the Education Finance Board
Fund. The Board was established on 15 February 2006 under Section 23 of
the Commission to Inquire into Child Abuse (Amendment) Act 2005. The Fund
which the Board has at its disposal in managed by the NTMA
pending its disbursement by the Board. The balance in the Fund at 31 December
2007 was 8.6 million euro.
